Prospero Año

Hey everyone!

Talking with my Nephew, Dallyn

Hope you had a fantastic Christmas. I got to Skype with my family and it was a lot of fun! I miss you all a lot but I do love it here. It’s crazy that I’m almost at a year. Time has flown by!

So on Christmas our mission sang for the community at the Mesa Temple Christmas Lights! And the ASL Elders asked me if I would sign the songs with them. So I learned about 4 Christmas songs in sign language in a day. It was a lot of fun.

We are still teaching this amazing family and yesterday they all said they wanted to be baptized! It was a miracle! They decided to pray as a family and pick a date. The mom is worried about her teenagers because she said she wants them to actually have a testimony before baptism and so far they haven been reading the Book of Mormon or any pamphlets we’ve left. But the said they would start!

That same family got a puppy for Christmas and it’s super cute. I was holding it during the lesson and it ended up peeing on me! They felt bad but then they started laughing. It reminded me of the days when I had Delilah. 🙂

This is our last week of Christmas lights. I’m kind of glad because it takes up so much time that we could be spending in our area. But it has been a fun experience. On the 31st we will actually be working inside the visitors center. I’m kind of nervous because there is a ton
of people that go during this time of year and it’s always crazy busy. But I think it’ll be good.

Well I hope you all have a great new year! Make 2016 count!

A quote I like that I think goes with the new year!

T-Minus 4 Days

Hey everyone! ¡Feliz Navidad!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. It’s hard to believe it’s already Christmas! Time flies! Soon I will be at my year mark and that is just weird.

We are teaching this wonderful family and I was worried that they would have trouble with certain things in the gospel (I.e. Not drinking alcohol) but they said that they are willing to give up certain things! So I was ecstatic! They are such a wonderful family. They all came to church again yesterday which was awesome!

Spanish White Elephant Party

Today we had a “Spanish missionary get together” and we did a white elephant fiesta. It was a lot of fun! I love seeing everyone and now that I’m all the way out in Pueblo it seems like I never see other missionaries anymore which is a bummer. So that was fun. I ended up getting these Mexican corn chip type things. So I’m excited to try those!

The present Tracy gave me!

Also one of the recent converts in our ward, Tracy, gave us Christmas presents! She gave me a Hershey pillow. It was so sweet! Another lady gave us penguin pillow pets and it’s funny because I have one at home just like it and I was thinking the other day that I should’ve brought it with me.

I want to share with you all something I learned about prayer. So we actually gave the lesson in Sunday school yesterday and it was all about preacher and how it is communication with Heavenly Father. They asked us last minute if we would teach the class. I wasn’t super thrilled. I’ve had a slight cold and not the best week ever so I just
was struggling to concentrate and felt like I couldn’t even think in Spanish let alone teach a class in it. So I decided to pray in my heart that my mood would change and that I would be able to speak without struggle. And it did! Everything worked out. That is just one of the many examples iv had with prayer this week: it truly does work.

I’m thankful for this time of year. I’m thankful for my Savior, Jesus Christ, who I feel I have come to know a lot more, especially during this time of year. I’m thankful for the atonement and the peace He has brought to my life. He has turned a really really bad day into a really really good one on many occasions. I hope you all keep in mind the real reason we celebrate. It’s Him. How amazing!

P.s. Grandma I got your package! It’s here and I am so excited! I’m lucky to have a grandma who bakes so well! Thank you!

Transfer News

Hey everyone!

So for transfers, I am staying in the same area with the same companion! I was happy to hear that because I’ve had a lot of changes the last few months. So that is awesome!

unnamed-1Today is my eleven month mark and I can’t believe it! I hit a year this next transfer. That is so weird! It just keeps going faster and faster. I don’t like to think about it too much. Whenever I tell members how long I’ve been out they’re like, “Oh wow, you’re pretty much done!” And I’m like, “No I’m not! I still have a long time.” It’s so weird because I feel like I’m still new sometimes!

We taught an awesome lesson to this family that is investigating and afterward they gave us “elotes” and “chocoflan” which is corn on a stick covered in tons of stuff and flan mixed with chocolate cake. But it was good that they fed us because I guess that means they trust us. They are a great family.

unnamedOne of my zone leaders gave me a David Archuleta Christmas CD and it was one of the BEST GIFTS EVER! We listen to it on repeat in the car (poor sister Knudson). Haha but I really like it. I also just really love by a missionary right now. I get to focus on the reason for the season every single day. I do get homesick sometimes but when I really focus on the work it’s not so bad.

Still loving working at Christmas lights! It’s a lot of fun. Well sorry this is short I don’t have a ton of time today. I hope you all have a great week!

Hey everyone!

This has been a great week! We went to the temple and it was amazing as always. Then we had our Christmas party and practiced for the concert we will be singing in on the 25th at the Visitors Center. I am really excited for that! On our way back to our car we saw we had a
flat tire! Luckily the elders helped us out and taught us how to change it. I think I’ve learned before but I have forgotten, haha.

This week we have seen a lot of miracles! We have 6 new investigators and 7 came to church! It was the craziest and busiest Sunday I have EVER had. But it was fun! And they all really liked it!

Me at the Christmas lights

So there is this less-active that we have been looking for since I’ve come into this area and we have never been able to find him. However, this last week as we were working at the Christmas Lights we found him walking around! I go up and start talking to him (not knowing it was him) and my companion goes, “Vladimir?!” It was so crazy! We ended up talking to him for awhile and we got a referral out of it! But I love working at the Christmas Lights. It is so fun to talk with people.

This morning we went on a hike and it was a lot of fun. Arizona is so beautiful! Who knew cacti could actually look pretty? Not me. But I have come to love this state with all me heart. It was cool because while hiking I met someone from Mexico and then later someone else from Spain! So I got to speak Spanish with both of them. But the hike
was so much fun and I am also so thankful for all of the friendships I’ve made while here on my mission.

I will leave you all with a funny story. So if you don’t know, I HATE SHRIMP. I have had to eat it countless times on my mission which has been the worst experience ever. Anyway, this week we went to dinner with a lady in our ward and when we walk in she said, “I hope you like mariscos!” (Which is seafood soup that has mainly shrimp in it). So as we start eating I manage to eat everything but the 15 or 16 pieces of shrimp. Meanwhile, my companion finished eating before me and the hermana was asking her if she wanted some more and she said, “Oh no, I’m fine. Thanks though!” But the problem is, the members who feed youdon’t like no for an answer so they kept on asking her and she kept on saying no. And finally I said, “You know what, my companion DOES want more, she’s just really shy. But here, Sister Knudson, you can have the rest of mine, I’m full.” And I made her eat all of my shrimp. I dodged the bullet that time. 🙂

Well I hope you all have a great week!
